Ford China's sales climb 18% in June on strength of Focus compact
Ford Motor Co. says its sales of passenger vehicles and commercial trucks rose 18 percent year-on-year in June to 52,440 units, as strong demand for the Focus compact car outweighed weak commercial sales.
Changan Ford Mazda Automotive Ltd. -- Ford's three-way joint venture with Mazda Motor Corp. and Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. -- sold 37,038 Ford-brand vehicles in June, up 28 percent.
In June, Ford sold nearly 15,000 units of the redesigned Focus, which went on sale in China this spring. The Focus generated nearly half of Ford's retail sales.
But Ford's commercial joint venture, Jiangling Motors Corp., reported sales of 15,093 commercial vehicles in June, down 1 percent from last year.
The figures don't include imported vehicles Ford sold in China.
For the first six months, Ford China sold 277,322 passenger vehicles and commercial trucks. Ford did not disclose year-early sales data for the six-month period.
