Toyota China venture launches Prius production
Toyota Motor Corp. says its joint venture with China FAW Group has begun assembling the third-generation Toyota Prius hybrid car in its assembly plant in the northeast China city of Changchun.
Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co. is producing the Prius, which will go on sale in 2012.
In a written statement, Toyota President Akio Toyoda said the company will localize production of hybrid powertrain components in China by 2015.
Toyota first began producing the Prius in China in 2005.
