Renault returns to China auto show scene

French automaker Renault SA, which skipped last year's auto show in Beijing, will return to China with a large display next week at the Shanghai auto show.

The company says it will display eight models.

"This indicates Renault China will accelerate its steps to grow," Renault China said in a statement. "Moreover, it reflects the increasing importance of the Chinese market to Renault."

Renault will display the DeZir concept, a rear-wheel-drive electric vehicle with a range of 160 kilometers per charge. The two-seat DeZir debuted last October at the Paris auto show.

Renault also will display the Koleos SUV, a redesigned Laguna compact car, a Formula One race car and a three-box Latitude sedan. The Latitude will go on sale after the show.

Renault did not specify other models to be shown.

Renault exports the Koleos, Laguna, Megane, Scenic and Vel Satis to China. The company does not have any assembly plants in China.
In 2010, the French automaker sold 14,225 vehicles in China, doubling its sales from the prior year, according to J.D. Power.
