Johnson Controls to build fourth battery plant in China
Johnson Controls Inc. will build a fourth automotive battery plant in China through a joint venture with an affiliate of Beijing Automotive Industry Group Co.
The more than $200 million (1.3 billion) plant, in which Binzhou Bohai Piston Co. is the other partner, will employ 650 people and will be used to manufacture both conventional and absorbent glass mat batteries, Johnson Controls, a major U.S. supplier to the auto industry, said.
Construction of the factory is expected to begin in 2017 in Binzhou, Shandong province, with production starting two years later.
Johnson Controls operates China battery plants in Shenyang, Chongqing and Changxing.
