CONCORD, Mass., Jan. 11, 2006 — Meikle Automation, a leader in automated manufacturing systems for a variety of industries, has purchased 55 licenses of SolidWorks? 3D CAD software to more quickly design complex machines and streamline its supply chain.

The Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, company has designed and built factory automation equipment for the automotive, medical, and consumer products industries since 1994 and serves a wide variety of OEM, tier 1, and tier 2 customers.

Meikle Automation will standardize on SolidWorks software over the next six months for all new projects going forward as engineers in six North American design centers finish up projects in their current 3D CAD systems.

Meikle Automation reports success using SolidWorks to translate files that the company previously had difficulties translating. “Formatting of translated drawings has historically taken a significant amount of effort for us,” Teschke said. “In some cases we spend up to one-half hour per drawing, reformatting them to meet customer requirements on projects that consist of hundreds or thousands of drawings.”

Meikle Automation also selected SolidWorks software for its advanced assembly capabilities, which simplify design work involving machine components such as pneumatic cylinders, and for its ability to drive designs through templates, configurations, and design tables. The company plans to use the COSMOS? design analysis capabilities within SolidWorks to improve design quality, avoid field failures, reduce material costs, and shorten time to market. The eDrawings?  e-mail-enabled viewing tool will help Meikle Automation efficiently collaborate with customers and colleagues in plants around the world.
