ContiTech unit to expand interior parts output

Benecke-Kaliko, a ContiTech subsidiary that makes surface materials for automotive interiors, will start building a second plant in China this year.

The factory, in Changzhou in east China's Jiangsu province, will start production in late 2015, ContiTech said.

The company is investing 40 million euros (312 million yuan) in the 24,000 square-meter plant. It will employ up to 250 people.

Benecke-Kaliko opened its first plant in China in 2006. The factory, located in Zhangjiagang of Jiangsu province, was expanded in October 2013.

Global automakers and their local joint ventures account for more than 70 percent of Continental's sales in China. The German megasupplier's largest customers in China are Volkswagen and General Motors.

Last year, the Hanover, Germany-based company generated global automotive original-equipment sales of $33.5 billion.
