Light-vehicle sales jump 11% in June on robust MPV, SUV volume
Light-vehicle sales in China rose 11 percent year-on-year to approximately 1,564,100 units in June on strong demand for MPVs and SUVs.
MPV sales surged 50 percent from a year earlier to some 126,800 units while SUV sales jumped 35 percent to about 325,400 units, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said.
During the month sedan sales rose 5 percent year-on-year to around 994,500 units.
By contrast, microvan sales dropped 11 percent to 117,400 units.
Led by strong MPV and SUV volumes, China's light-vehicle deliveries increased 11 percent in the first half of the year from the same period last year to some 9,633,800 units.
Sales of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, aided by government subsidies, surged 220 percent in the first half of the year to 20,477 units across the country, according to the industry association.
The figure includes 11,777 EVs and 8,700 plug-in hybrids.
