Kia's China venture sees 12% sales gain in April

Dongfeng Yueda Kia Automobile Co., Kia Motors' joint venture in China, sold 51,685 vehicles last month, up 12 percent from a year earlier.

The increase was in line with overall industry sales of passenger vehicles in China, which rose 12 percent last month to 1.6 million units.

The Kia K2 and K3 remained the joint venture's top sellers: 12,120 K2s and 12,174 K3s were sold in China last month. In April, the company also delivered 4,749 K5s and 5,844 Fortes.

Kia did not year-to-year sales comparisons for individual models.

Dongfeng Yueda Kia, based in the east China city of Yancheng, is a three-way partnership of Kia Motors Corp., Dongfeng Motor Corp. and Jiangsu Yueda Investment Co.

For the first four months, the company sold approximately 207,700 vehicles and remained on track to achieve its sales target of 650,000 units for the year.
