Guangzhou Auto plans exports starting in 2014

GAC Motor Co., the passenger-vehicle unit of Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., plans to start exporting vehicles to emerging markets this year.

Target markets include South America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, the company said.

It also plans to assemble vehicles in Russia and Iran using complete knockdown kits shipped from China.

The company expects to export up to 5,000 vehicles this year. GAC did not release additional details of its export plans.

GAC Motor, incorporated in 2008 in the south China city of Guangzhou, sells the GA5 mid-sized sedan, the GS5 SUV and the GA3 compact sedan under its Trumpchi brand.

Trumpchi generated sales of 85,000 units in 2013, up 50 percent from a year earlier. This year, the company wants to boost sales 35 percent to 115,000 units.

Its parent company, Guangzhou Auto has joint ventures with Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi and Fiat.
