Nokia and China Putian have completed an interoperability test of the complete TD-SCDMA networking system, moving one step further towards the commercial deployment of China’s home-grown TD-SCDMA technology, according to market sources and a March 17 press release of Nokia China.

The test covered the connection between a TD-SCDMA wireless network and Nokia’s 3GPP Release 4-compliant core networking system, AMR (adaptive multi-rate) voice call, video phone, data downloading at a speed of 384 Kbps and other integrated services, said Nokia China.

The test proved that Nokia’s core networking technology can fully support GSM, W-CDMA and TD-SCDMA standards at the same time, said Keith Sutton, vice president for network technology of Nokia China, in the press release.

China Putian also claimed that the company’s production lines for TD-SCDMA end-to-end solutions are ready for commercial production, said a company official, as quoted in the press release.

Meanwhile, China-based Datang Mobile and Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel’s flagship company in China, will jointly set up a laboratory by the end of March to conduct field testing related to the interoperability of GSM and TD-SCDMA, and improve the quality of video conference and online gaming over TD-SCDMA network systems, according to sources at Datang Mobile.
