Dongguan to set up science and technology bases

Science and technology bases, to foster international cooperation, will be established in Dongguan, Guangdong province, local government sources said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the local government will sign agreements with the China Association for Science and Technology to extend the association’s overseas intellectual program in Dongguan.

The government will also sign an agreement with Shanghai-based Tongji University during the China (Dongguan) International Science and Technology Week to build a research institute, according to government sources.

The event, which opened in the southern manufacturing and trade hub on Tuesday, has attracted more than 330 domestic and overseas high-tech companies to showcase their latest products.

“Cooperation with leading domestic and overseas high-tech companies will help Dongguan better upgrade its traditional industries,” said Xian Zhou’en, director of the Dongguan Economy and Information Bureau.

Since the science and technology week was launched in 2004, Dongguan has developed more than 2,000 cooperative projects in science and technology with more than 20 countries and regions, according to Xian.
