GM China sales up 12% in October on demand for Buick, Cadillac

General Motors said its joint ventures sold 282,054 vehicles in China in October, up 12 percent year-on-year on strong demand for its premium brands, Buick and Cadillac.

Buick sales rose 15 percent last month to 69,746 units, while Cadillac sales jumped 69 percent to 4,202 units as its flagship sedan, the XTS, set a monthly sales record.

But Chevrolet sales rose only 8 percent to 59,006 units despite robust sales of the Cruze compact sedan.

The automaker's microvan venture, SAIC-GM-Wuling, recorded sales of 143,693 units, up nearly 11 percent. Meanwhile, General Motors' commercial vehicle venture, FAW-GM, recorded a sales increase of 27 percent to 5,407 vehicles.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers has not yet published industry sales for October. However, GM sales have been rising roughly in line with industry results for the year.

In the first ten months, GM sales have risen 11 percent to 2.6 million units. By comparison, industry sales of passenger vehicles and light commercial trucks rose 12 percent in the first nine months.
