Ford sales jump 46% on Changan JV volume

Ford Motor Co. and two joint ventures delivered 71,183 vehicles in China last month, an increase of 46 percent compared with the same month last year.

The growth was led by Changan Ford Automobile Co., whose sales surged 62 percent year-on-year to 53,390 vehicles in August.

Changan Ford, a passenger vehicle joint venture between Ford and Changan Automobile Co., builds the Ford Mondeo, Focus, New Fiesta, Kuga and EcoSport in the southwest China municipality of Chongqing.

Sales at Jiangling Motors Corp., Ford's commercial vehicle joint venture with Jiangling Motors Group, rose 10 percent from a year earlier to 16,549 vehicles during the month.

Jiangling Motors produces the Ford Transit van and its JMC-brand SUVs, pickups, vans and light trucks in the east China city of Nanchang.

In August, Ford also sold 1,244 imported vehicles in China, which include the Ford Focus ST, Fiesta ST, Edge and Explorer.

For the first eight months of this year, Ford and its two joint ventures sold 551,738 vehicles in China, a gain of 50 percent from the same period last year.
