VW-brand sales advance 19% in July
Volkswagen-brand sales in China and Hong Kong rose 19 percent year-on-year last month to 190,000 units as the German automaker continued to outperform the market.
Industry sales of light vehicles rose 11 percent in July, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
For the first seven months, Volkswagen-brand sales in China increased nearly 19 percent to 1.36 million units.
While the German automaker has not released group sales for July, it has posted results for Skoda, Audi and Porsche.
In July, Skoda sales in China declined nearly 6 percent to 18,000 units, although China remains the Czech brand's biggest market. Porsche delivered 3,065 units in China, up 4 percent. And Audi sales jumped 27 percent last month to 41,766 units.
Volkswagen has been locked in a seesaw battle with General Motors for bragging rights as China's biggest foreign automaker.
GM China has kept a slim lead over the first six months, with sales of 1.57 million vehicles compared with Volkswagen group sales 1.54 million units.
Volkswagen is expected to post group sales for the first seven months late this week.
