Chinese gain ground in weak Russian market
While Russia's auto market remained weak in May, major Chinese automakers generated strong sales growth on small volumes during the month, according to the Association of European Businesses.
Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., the top-selling Chinese automaker in Russia, sold 2,414 vehicles in May, up 120 percent from a year earlier.
Chongqing Lifan Industry Group Co. sold 2,353 vehicles in Russia, up 66 percent year on year.
Sales of Great Wall Motor Co., the third-largest Chinese vehicle seller in Russia, advanced 74 percent to 1,829 vehicles.
Chery Automobile Co. ranked fourth with sales rising 4 percent year on year to 1,678 vehicles.
In contrast to the sales growth of Chinese brands, light-vehicle sales in Russia dropped 12 percent from a year earlier to 229,670 units in May.
