New models drive Dongfeng-PSA sales up 37%

Sales of Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co. increased 37 percent in April to 45,303 units on strong sales of new models.

The sales growth of PSA Peugeot Citroen's joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corp. significantly outpaced industry sales of light vehicles, which rose 13 percent.

Dongfeng Peugeot attributed its robust sales to two models introduced in China this year -- the stretched Citroen C4 and the Peugeot 3008.

For the first four months of this year, the joint venture's sales rose 32 percent to 187,978 units.

Dongfeng Peugeot, in the central China city of Wuhan, makes the Peugeot 207, 307, 308, 408, 508 and 3008, and the Citroen Elysee, C2, C4 and C5.

The partnership aims to sell more than 500,000 vehicles this year, up 13 percent from 2012. It wants to raise its share of the Chinese passenger vehicle market to 5 percent by 2015 from 3.9 percent in the first four months of this year.

To sustain its sales growth, the company will launch upgraded versions of the Citroen Elysee and the Peugeot 301 this year. Over the next three years, it plans to introduce at least three new and upgraded models each year.

In China, PSA also has a joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. in the south China city of Shenzhen. This summer, that partnership will start producing the Citroen DS model lineup.
