Ford China sales up 48% in October

Ford Motor Co. and its China ventures sold 60,518 vehicles in October, surging 48 percent from the same month last year.

Ford China said the growth was led by robust sales of the upgraded Ford Focus.

While industry sales figures for October are not yet available, it's a safe bet that Ford outgrew the market. In September, industry sales of light vehicles declined 1 percent, according to LMC Automotive.

Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co., Ford's passenger vehicle joint venture, sold 44,489 Ford-branded cars last month, up 66 percent year-on-year.

The joint venture produces the Mondeo, Focus, Fiesta and S-Max models. It also imports the Ford Edge.

Sales of Jiangling Motors Corp., Ford's commercial vehicle joint venture, rose 14 percent in October to 16,029 vehicles.

Jiangling Motors produces the Ford Transit van as well as Jiangling-badged SUVs, MPVs and light trucks.

For the first 10 months of this year, sales of Ford and China ventures grew 14 percent year-on-year. Ford has been outpacing industry light-vehicle sales, which rose 5 percent in the first nine months, according to LMC.
