Isuzu to build commercial pickup plant in China
Japanese truckmaker Isuzu Motors Ltd. plans to build a plant in the southeast China city of Nanchang to produce as many as 100,000 pickups a year, reported Agence France-Presse, citing Japan's Nikkei business daily.
Isuzu's joint venture with Jiangling Motors Corp. will manage the project, which will cost $128 million (811 million yuan).
Isuzu will buy truck engines from its other Chinese partner, commercial truckmaker Qingling Motors Group.
Isuzu has produced commercial vehicles in China since 1985. Recently, it has taken steps to improve operations.
This month, the company said it would form two joint ventures to produce parts and engineer vehicles with Qingling Motors in Chongqing.
Those partnerships will help Isuzu cut production costs and engineer its next-generation heavy-duty trucks.
