GM sales in China rise 10.7% in March
General Motors and its joint ventures sold 257,944 vehicles in China last month, up 10.7 percent year-on-year. Sales were the second highest for any month in GM China's history, according to GM China.
Domestic sales of Shanghai General Motors Co., GM's passenger vehicle joint venture, rose 10.5 percent from a year earlier to 110,038 units.
"Our new models such as the Chevrolet Malibu have gotten off to a solid start, complementing the ongoing strength of established products such as the Buick Excelle, Chevrolet Cruze and Cadillac SRX," GM China President Kevin Wale said in a statement.
The automaker's microvan joint venture, SAIC-GM-Wuling Automotive Co., sold 139,768 vehicles, up 11.6 percent.
General Motors' commercial truck partnership, FAW-GM Light Duty Commercial Vehicle Co., sold 7,417 vehicles in March. GM China did not provide a year-on-year comparison for the company.
For the first quarter, GM and its three China joint ventures sold 745,152 vehicles, a new quarterly high.
GM China did not disclose the export figures of its three China joint ventures.
