GM names new head of Shanghai tech center

Ingo Scholten, a General Motors veteran, has been named president of the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center, GM's joint-venture technical center in Shanghai.

He replaces Maryann Combs, who has been named GM's executive director of global validation.

Scholten joined GM in 1992. As vice president of powertrain engineering for GM International Operations, he oversaw the launch of new engine plants in India, Thailand and Uzbekistan, GM said in a statement.

Before that, Scholten was PATAC's director of powertrains.

In 1997, GM and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. established PATAC as a 50-50 joint venture. PATAC designs and tests vehicles and components for GM's two joint ventures, Shanghai GM and SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co

Shanghai GM, which produces passenger vehicles, is a joint venture between SAIC and General Motors.

SAIC-GM-Wuling, which produces commercial microvans, is a three-way joint venture among GM, SAIC and the Liuzhou government in southwest China's Guangxi region.
