Changan's EV earns 5 stars in Chinese crash test
Changan Automobile Co. says its E30 electric sedan received a five-star rating during a domestic crash test.
This is the first time a domestic Chinese automaker has disclosed crash test results for an electric vehicle.
The test is based on a scale of one to five-plus stars with five-plus being the best.
It was conducted last week by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, which is located in the north China city of Tianjin.
The center's crash tests are considered the most authoritative in China.
The E30 compact sedan has a 160 km range and a maximum speed of 126 km per hour.
Production of the E30 will start soon. The company aims to assemble up to 150,000 electric vehicles on two platforms by 2020.
Headquartered in the southwest China municipality of Chongqing, Changan has production joint ventures with Ford Motor Co. and PSA Peugeot Citroen.
