Compeq to Invest US$45 M. in Establishing PCB Factory in Chongquing, China
The board of directors of Compeq Co., Ltd. recently approved a plan to invest US$45 million to open a printed circuit board (PCB) factory in Chongquing, mainland China. Volume production is planned to start in 2013.
Compeq is among Taiwan's top three PCB makers of high density interconnection (HDI) boards for mobile phones. The company now maintains production facilities in Taiwan, Guangdong and Jiangsu. Opening production lines in the inland city of Chongquing indicates that labor costs in coastal provinces of mainland China have surged to unacceptable scales for Taiwanese manufacturers.
Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (TPCA), a trade body representing Taiwan's PCB makers, pointed out that the mainland now is the world's No.1 PCB producer in terms of revenue mostly thanks to Taiwanese operations there. The association pointed out that in 2012 Taiwanese manufacturers will remain major contributor to revenue of the mainland's industry.
