Lenovo Unveils Social Media And Cloud Computing Strategies In China

Chinese technology giant Lenovo Group held a launch ceremony in Beijing to announce a new cloud computing strategy, a new smartphone, a tablet computer, a new personal computer, and TV products.

Its new personal cloud product can realize three types of services, including personal information management, interconnectivity, and social networking. Lenovo will also reportedly provide users with a whopping 200 gigabytes of storage space for all their connected devices.

A new automatic synchronization function can now update data among various Lenovo terminals and devices. For its social networking focus, Lenovo will provide a one-click publishing function within many of its devices. With a single click, users will be able to publish texts, photos, and videos on Chinese social media and social networking websites.

Apart from the personal cloud services, Lenovo also launched several new devices during the meeting, including the S2 smartphone; the S2 tablets with 5-inch, 7-inch, and 10-inch screens; and the new smart television product which will be formally launched in the first quarter of 2012.

Lenovo's new tablets reportedly adopt mainstream configurations. The 7-inch S2 tablet uses the Android 3.0 operating system, and supports 720P HD recording and a standby period of eight hours; while the 5-inch S2 tablet uses Qualcomm's 1.2G processor and supports the 3G call function. Lenovo's S2 smartphone adopts the Android 2.3 operating system.

Lenovo revealed that its new devices will all use the unified brand of Idea in the future, which means ideaphone will become the brand name for its smartphone, ideatab for tablet computer, and ideaTV for the new smart TV product.

Lenovo also said it will focus on the distribution of mainstream operating systems such as Android and Windows. At the same time, it plans to implement a large scale of optimization to these operating systems within China.
