Chevrolet Volt to debut in 8 Chinese cities; price set at 498,000 yuan

General Motors says the Chevrolet Volt hybrid-electric car will be sold in eight Chinese cities for $75,533 (498,000 yuan).

The automaker says 13 Chevrolet dealerships will sell the Volt in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan.

The Volt has a maximum range of 80 kilometers on its electric batteries alone, and a range of 570 kilometers with the assistance of its gasoline engine.

In China, Volt buyers will be eligible to joint the V+ Club, which provides a 24-hour service hotline.

GM will not produce the Volt in China, but it has announced plans to build an as-yet unidentified electric car in China with partner SAIC Motor Corp.
