Suning,IBM to build world's largest e-commerce platform

China's leading consumer electronics retailer, the Suning Appliance Co., will build the world's largest e-commerce platform in cooperation with IBM, according to an accord signed Thursday by the two companies in this capital city of the eastern province of Jiangsu.

The platform will be a multi-billion-yuan (1 U.S. dollar equals to 6.33 yuan) business supported by advanced information technology and efficient logistics and supply chain management, benefiting both consumers and suppliers, said Zhang Jindong, Suning's board chairman.

The two companies hope to lead the global retail industry by establishing a partnership and making full use of Suning's industry experience and IBM's technology, according to Frank Kern, IBM's senior vice president.

Suning and IBM have been working together since 2005. They jointly launched an enterprise resource planning system for Suning in 2006.
