Great Wall forms joint ventures with suppliers Bosch and BorgWarner

Great Wall Motor Co. says it has formed joint ventures with BorgWarner Inc. of the United States and Robert Bosch GmbH of Germany to engineer key components.

The partnership with Bosch will develop engine management systems and brakes.

In 2006, Bosch started supplying common rail fuel systems for diesel engines used in Great Wall's Haval SUV and Wingle pickup.

Great Wall also has formed a joint venture with BorgWarner to design timing chains for transmissions and torque management systems.

By the end of this year, Great Wall's Haval H6 will be equipped with BorgWarner's torque management system.

BorgWarner also has produced parts for Great Wall since 2005. The company has previously supplied Great Wall with turbochargers and transfer cases.

Great Wall is a privately owned automaker based in the northeast China city of Baoding. In 2010, its sales jumped 90 percent to 294,181 units, according to data from J.D. Power and Associates.
