Magna Steyr expands Shanghai tech operation
Magna Steyr says it has moved its Shanghai engineering operation into a larger building with a prototype shop for component testing and vehicle development.
The new building is in Shanghai's Jiading district.
It will accommodate 500 employees and will have the capacity to produce up to eight prototype vehicles per week.
Magna Steyr, a unit of Canada's Magna International Inc., has been doing business in China since 2004. The company produces roofs and fuel systems, assembles 'niche' vehicles and offers engineering services.
As a contract manufacturer, Magna Steyr has produced 21 different vehicle models for a variety of automakers. It has four engineering centers in China and will open its first fuel systems plant in Changchun this year.
