Porsche China sales rose fivefold in July
Porsche AG said its sales in China soared to 2,484 units in July -- up fivefold over the year-ago period -- on strong demand for the company's Cayenne SUV.
For the first seven months of the year, the German sports car manufacturer sold 14,751 units, up nearly 73 percent over the year-earlier period.
The Cayenne has benefited from two market trends in China, where SUVs are popular and luxury vehicles are hot. The Cayenne also is better suited for the country's rutted roads.
Porsche expects its sales in China will rival its largest market, the United States, in two or three years. To expand sales, Porsche is expanding its dealership network in China, where it had 31 stores last year.
In January, the company said it would open 10 new dealerships a year. The company is adding dealerships in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where demand is growing strongly for vehicles of all types.
