China car manufacturers to recall nearly 75,000 vehicles over faulty Kumho tires

China's top quality watchdog said on Monday that three Chinese car manufacturers will recall approximately 75,000 cars due to their faulty Kumho tires beginning April 15.

The tires to be recalled contain excessive amounts of recycled materials which might affect the way the tires function, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

The AQSIQ said on April 2 that Kumho Tires, which is headquartered in the Republic of Korea, will recall more than 300,000 substandard tires in China beginning April 15.

Also, Beijing Hyundai Motor Company has declared a recall of 63,588 vehicles produced between June 4, 2008 and Jan. 13, 2011. The recall involves eight models, including Elantra and Accent.

Further, Great Wall Automobile Holding Company Limited will recall 4,685 vehicles assembled between Oct. 30, 2008 and Jan. 28, 2011, involving two models: Florid and Tengyi C30.
