Chery's Serbia-bound exports will be police cars

Chery Automobile Co. delivered a batch of 17 vehicles to the Serbian capital of Belgrade.

The vehicles, which include 15 Chery A3 compact sedans and 2 Tiggo small SUVs, will be used as police cars.

Chery says it prevailed over rival bids from Skoda, Fiat, Peugeot, Toyota and Hyundai. The Chinese company didn't disclose the value of the contract.

In addition to the Serbian contract, Chery says it has obtained government vehicle procurement contracts in Egypt and Iraq.

Chery is China's largest vehicle exporter. In 2010, its vehicle sales totaled 682,000 units, including 92,000 units sold overseas.
