Great Wall's new plant to start up this month
Great Wall Motor Co. expects its new assembly plant in the north China port city of Tianjin will start production later this month, said a company spokesman.
The plant will produce up to 250,000 vehicles a year, lifting Great Wall's annual capacity to 750,000 units.
The plant will build Great Wall's latest SUV and sedan models, including the Hover H6 SUV and the Voleex C50 sedan, according to the spokesman.
An expansion of the Tianjin plant already is underway, said the spokesman. Phase Two is expected to start production in the second half of 2012, adding another 250,000 units of capacity.
In 2013, Great Wall plans to expand the Tianjian plant by an additional 300,000 units, according to the spokesman.
Great Wall's existing plant, located in the north China city of Baoding, can build up to 500,000 vehicles a year.
In 2010, the private Chinese company sold 390,000 vehicles, including 150,000 Hover SUVs, 140,000 Voleex sedans and 100,000 Wingle pickups, according to its Web site.
