Reports: New Ford plant in Tianjin
Chinese media reports said that Ford Motor Co will likely build a new plant in north China, probably in Tianjin, with its Chinese partner Chongqing Chang'an Automobile Co.
Ford now has a three-way joint venture with Chang'an and Japan's Mazda Motor Co, which runs vehicle plants in Chongqing and Nanjing.
But Ford and Mazda will split the joint ventures with Chang'an into separate companies. Reports said the Nanjing factory will belong to Mazda while Ford will keep the Chongqing plant and will need additional capacity.
The reports also said Ford will release a strategy in April at the Shanghai auto show, which might include a goal to sell 1.5 million vehicles annually in China and gain an 8 percent market share in the next decade.
