Michelin to invest 1.5 billion USD in new China plant

The France-based Michelin Group announced on Nov. 21 that it will invest nearly 1.5 billion U.S. dollars to establish a factory in Shenyang to produce tires for passenger cars and light trucks, according to China Business News.

This factory will make 10 million tires for passenger cars and light trucks, 1.8 million tires for trucks and coaches as well as 295,000 recapped tires for trucks and coaches.

The total investment that Michelin previously injected in China was only 450 million U.S. dollars, while the investment for this new project in Shenyang is more than three times that of Michelin's previous total investments in China.

This factory will use special techniques to produce high-performance and environmentally-friendly tires to reduce their weight while maintaining the same load and speed performance as well.

The installation of the production lines and equipment for the entire factory will be completed within four years, and a total of 1,500 experts will arrive in Shenyang to participate in the installation and debugging. Michelin will also send 500 employees to receive training in North America and Europe and train a total of 3,500 employees in China.
