Toyota recalls 134,000 Crown, Reiz sedans in China
Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Company, a joint venture created by FAW and Toyota Motor Corp., will recall more than 134,000 Crown and Reiz sedans starting Nov. 15, 2010, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said in a statement on Oct. 21.
The recalled vehicles include nearly 72,000 Crown sedans produced between Feb. 21, 2005 and Dec. 31, 2006 as well as more than 62,000 Reiz sedans produced between Oct. 18, 2005 and Dec. 31, 2006.
The main cause for this recall is the leaky dust covers of the two models' rear brake caliper guide pins. The leakage of water could rust the guide pins and cause the brake calipers to fail, thereby affecting driving safety. The automaker will replace the dust covers and some extremely rusty guide pins free of charge.
The automaker will commission its subsidiary FAW Toyota Motor Sales and retailers to contact owners of affected vehicles by telephone, short messages and other means so they can have their cars repaired in service stores nearby.
