Panasonic China Recalls 365,574 Refrigerators

China's quality watchdog says that the China unit of Japanese electronics giant Panasonic has started the recall of 365,574 refrigerators on mainland China due to faulty temperature control components.

According to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the recall which started on August 4, 2010, involves 29 refrigerator models produced between March 2007 and March 2009.

The statement also said that the faulty temperature control components may cause the unit to smoke or even catch fire in certain extreme conditions.

The Wuxi-based company said it will offer free checks and repairs for all the recalled units.
