GM sales up 48.5% in 1st half

General Motors and its joint ventures in China registered combined sales of 176,486 units in June, a 23.2 percent increase from the same month last year.

Sales for the first half of year were up 48.5 percent from the same period in 2009 to more than 1.2 million units.

Shanghai GM's sales in June reached 71,782 vehicles due to rising demand for its Chevrolet and Cadillac products as well as the ongoing strength of its flagship Buick brand.

SAIC-GM-Wuling sold 99,115 minivans last month, 20 percent more than a year ago. Commercial vehicle joint venture FAW-GM moved 5,220 units in June.
