Dongfeng Motor Co.'s passenger vehicle division held a ceremony in Shanghai for a team of five young men who was to start on a tour of the world by driving its own brand cars.
The two cars used for the tour are the three-box Aelus S30 sedan and its hatchback version, the Aelus H30.
Starting from Dongfeng, the team will drive the two cars across 23 countries in six continents namely Asia, Europe, Africa, Antarctic, South America and North America.
Dongfeng has no immediate plans to export the two models, Li Chunrong, vice general manager of Dongfeng Passenger Vehicle Co., told Automotive News China. "We see this as a journey of quality test and we want to use this opportunity to collect information on the cars driving in different environments," he added.
The two cars are fitted with engines supplied by Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen, which is Dongfeng's joint venture with PSA Peugeot Citroen SA.
Combined sales of the two models which sell for less than 100,000 yuan ($14,650) are above 3,000 units each months, according to Li.
