Citing IDC's statistics, Shih said that his brand outpaced Dell and Toshiba as No. 3 with a 9.9% share in the consumer segment and shipment of more than 3.5 million units in the fourth quarter of 2009, only trailing HP and Acer.

Obviously well on its way to becoming a globally leading brand, Asus posted overall notebook PC shipment of 4.64 million units for the first quarter of this year, up 114.8% from a year earlier, and a 5.5% global market share as the fifth-largest, with. HP, Acer, Dell and Lenovo ranking among the top four brands of the world, Gartner's statistic compilation shows.

Shih noted that Asus's recent shining sales performance has boosted his confidence of seeing the brand squeeze into the world's top three notebook PC brand list soon.
