China's jumbo jet engine assembly base to settle in Shanghai
The Aviation Industry Corporation of China's (AVIC) Commercial Aircraft Engine Company (ACAE), the main participant and general manufacturer of China's jumbo jet engine project announced January 5 in Shanghai that according to the strategic cooperation framework agreement signed between AVIC and the Shanghai municipal government November 2008.
The domestically-made jumbo jet engine final assembly and trial run base will be located in the Lingang area of Shanghai's Pudong New District. When completed, the base's functions will include the LEAP-X1C engine assembly project under an international cooperation agreement. LEAP-X1C engine is the only power unit of domestically-made C919 jumbo jets that will be initially manufactured abroad.
According to the orientation of the framework agreement, upon the establishment of the ACAE Lingang base, it will have 4 major functions. Firstly, the final assembly and test run of civil aero engines covering both independent research and development projects, and international cooperation projects. Secondly, overhaul plants. Thirdly, engaging in international sub-contract production businesses and fourthly, forming a domestically-made civil aero engine industry cluster. This means that the functions of the Lingang base will include the LEAP-X1C engine assembly project under international cooperation agreement.
