China accelerates "auto and home appliances to countryside" program

China is accelerating its program to send auto and home appliances to the countryside, as well as its "trade-ins" program, which is an important part of the package plan for boosting domestic demand, reporters learned from the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) December 23.

Currently, home appliances going to the countryside has increased to 6,700 models of 12 varieties in nine categories, up from three categories at the trial stage. There are 359 manufacturing enterprises and 344 distribution enterprises winning bids, as well as nearly 190,000 outlets, essentially covering all counties and towns in China. As of December 12, manufacturing enterprises winning bids delivered 81.84 million units of home appliances, worth 143.56 billion yuan.

As of December 17, about 3.53 million units of old home appliances were recycled during a pilot home appliance trade-in program implemented in nine municipalities and provinces including Beijing and Tianjin. 3.1 million units of new home appliances were sold, with a sales volume of 12.13 billion yuan.
