China Huaneng Group Plans Green Power Plants

Zhang Tingke, the deputy general manager of China Huaneng Group, disclosed at The World Low Carbon and Eco-economy Conference and Technical Exposition that CHG will convert all its coal-fired power plants into environmentally-friendly ones by the end of 2010 by desulphurizing the coal-fired units.

Zhang explained that CHG is a large power generation company. At present, it owns a total installed capacity of more than 90 million Kilowatts, which accounts for 11% of the capacity of the Chinese domestic market.

Zhang stated that to progress the green coal power initiative, CHG will complete the pilot Tianjin IGCC Power Plant by 2011, in addition to developing green coal power related technologies and building a 400,000-kilowatt green coal power demonstration project.

From 2004 onwards, CHG has been implementing a green coal power initiative for the development of new types of power generation technology, in cooperation with seven other Chinese power plants and coal companies. In July 2009, it commenced the construction of the first project of the green coal power initiative-Huaneng Tianjin IGCC demonstration power plant. In the mean time, for the first time, a key technology of the initiative, the two-stage dry-feed pressurized gasification technology developed by Xi'an Thermal Power Research Institute Company was brought to the market in developed countries.
