Chang'an Automobile to expand production capacity

Construction of the new area of Chang'an Automobile's Hebei base officially started on July 2, marking the start of the auto manufacturer's northward production expansion project which aims to realize the production and sales of two million cars per year.

In the coming years, Chang'an Automobile will invest two billion yuan to expand the production capacity of its Hebei base to over 500,000 assembled cars from the current 200,000. It will also start producing vehicle engines, and ultimately build the Hebei base into a large auto manufacturing base integrating the production of engines and cars.

160,000 cars were produced and sold by Chang'an Automobile's Hebei base in 2008. It is expected that the base will produce and sell 245,000 cars this year.

Headquartered in Chongqing, Chang'an Automobile is one of China's major auto manufacturers. It went public on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 1997.
