Coca Cola Sets Up New Bottling Plants In China

Beverage company Coca Cola has announced the opening of its 37th bottling plant in China.

Located in Nanchang city, Jiangxi province, the new bottling plant is invested in by COFCO Coca-Cola Beverages, Coca Cola's joint venture with China National Cereals, Oils & Foodstuffs Corp., and covers an area of 147,000 square meters, with initial investments of CNY100 million.

At present, the bottling plant has one imported bottling production line with an annual capacity of 120,000 tons, which equals 500 million bottles.

According to Muhtar Kent, the chairman and CEO of Coca Cola, the setting up of the new plant in Jiangxi is in response to the Chinese government's call for support for the economic development of the middle and western areas of China. He said the new plant is expected to provide 400 jobs and bring more than 4,000 employment opportunities to local suppliers and distributors.

Coca Cola has about 15,000 sales sites in Jiangxi and realized sales of 13.6 million cases in the province in 2008.

In addition, the company's new bottling plant in Urumqi, Xinjiang opened on June 24, 2009, meaning that its bottling plants cover all of China's provincial administrative regions, with the exception of Guizhou, Qinghai, Ningxia, and Tibet.
