Recently, Southwest Aluminum (Group) Co., Ltd. (SWA), located in Xipeng Town, Chongqing, publicized good news—it has made a breakthrough in can-making materials and has the capacity to mass produce. This means that China can now manufacture pop-up aluminum cans.
Tens of billions aluminum cans are used in China annually. However, China has never before had the capacity to produce thin and high-strength aluminum materials which meet quality standards, and therefore had to rely on exports. The pop-open aluminum cans manufactured by SWA are only 0.27 millimeters thick - less than the average diameter of three hairs. After more than 20 years of tireless efforts, SWA are finally able to make cans that reach international standards.
In the future, costs for domestic pop-up aluminum can users are expected to fall by more than 30 percent. Experts say that SWA's technology ranks China among countries that can process high-quality aluminum strips.
