Lenovo Boosts Workstation and Server Performance

Lenovo announced that it is using the latest Intel® Xeon® Processor 5500 Series and Intel® Xeon® Processor 3500 Series to support advanced levels of computing performance in workstations and servers.

Lenovo announced that it is using the latest Intel? Xeon? Processor 5500 Series and Intel? Xeon? Processor 3500 Series to support advanced levels of computing performance in workstations and servers. Lenovo recently previewed its latest ThinkStation workstations based on the Intel Xeon processors at the Game Developers Conference, and Lenovo’s upcoming ThinkServer RD210 and RD220 rack servers will also offer Intel? Xeon? Processor 5500 Series (formerly codenamed Nehalem). The new computing solutions feature higher levels of performance with increased memory capacity and exceptional energy efficiency.

“Lenovo continues to bring users the latest technology and product innovations to help them achieve breakthrough progress,” said Tom Tobul, executive director, Enterprise, Software and Peripherals Marketing, Lenovo. “Our new ThinkStation and ThinkServer offerings will help drive innovation in engineering, science, business and almost every field imaginable.”

ThinkStation Delivers Turbo-Charged Performance

The new ThinkStation S20 and D20 workstations offer the most data and graphics-intensive users in fields such as digital content creation, engineering design automation and oil and gas the latest advancements in workstation performance. Equipped with Intel? Xeon? Processor 5500 Series and Intel? Xeon? Processor 3500 Series, these powerful new workstations give users the ability to process even the most complex tasks more quickly and work asynchronously. Many processors also come with Intel? Turbo Boost Technology for an extra performance kick during peak processing.

Not only do the workstations provide powerful performance, they also use power efficiently. Lenovo offers models that meet the Energy Star 5.0 criteria for energy efficiency and are rated Gold by the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool for their environmental attributes. Additionally, the workstations are GREENGUARD certified and use significant amounts of recycled plastic.

ThinkServer Racks Up On Performance

Lenovo’s upcoming second generation of servers will also feature the Intel? Xeon? Processor 5500 Series. Expect big performance in a small package with the 1U dual processor RD210 rack server. It fits the needs of space-conscious businesses without sacrificing performance, while the larger 2U RD220 rack server provides greater options for expandability.

The new servers will extend Lenovo’s first generation of servers with new capabilities for performance, ease of use and virtualization. In addition to the energy efficient performance boost, they will offer customers new, streamlined set-up and built in RAID configuration and auto install for Linux operating systems. The servers will be virtualization-ready to help customers achieve a lower total cost of ownership through the consolidation of operations and users onto fewer systems.

“The Intel Xeon Processor 5500 Series delivers a new level of processor intelligence enabling adaptive performance and energy efficiency unique to the user's specific workload and environment,” said Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager, Server Platforms Group, Intel. “Lenovo’s systems incorporating these new Intel Xeon processors will enable greater productivity with an overall lower total cost of ownership.”

A suite of easy-to-use software makes the new servers ideal solutions for small and mid-sized businesses. Lenovo makes installation a snap with Easy Startup and helps reduce maintenance headaches with Easy Manage. Additionally, Lenovo offers ThinkPlus Productivity and Online Data Backup services to help maximize uptime and keep workers productive. The servers come with a 90-day free trial of ThinkPlus Priority support.
