On November 21, 2008, the awarding ceremony of the “2008 Prize for Excellence of Chinese Management Model” (the “Excellence Prize”) was held in Beijing in a grand style. Over 1,000 enterprise representatives from all over the country participated in the ceremony, witnessing together the exciting moments of the important prize. The Excellence Prize is the first prize dedicated to the management practice and achievement of domestic enterprises. Nine enterprises, including Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai, China Merchants Group and China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation Limited, were honored with the prize. Zhu Xiaoming, Principal of CEIBS; Hu Xinxin, Executive Chair of the Council of the China Enterprise Confederation (CEC); Yi Zhihong, Principal of School of Business, Renmin University of China; Wu Cheng, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering; Robert Xu,Chairman,Chief Software Architect and founder of  Kingdee International Software Group Company Limited, among others, granted the prize to the winners.

 

The Excellence Prize is an activity for public interest jointly initiated by the Chinese Society for Management Modernization, CEIBS, Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, School of Business, Renmin University of China, Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, School of Management, Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Kingdee International Software Group Company Limited. The screening of the Excellence Prize started in August 2008 and lasted for nearly half a year. Nine winners were singled out in nine sectors, including organization innovation, group management, and marketing, through enterprise application, enterprise visit, survey, oral defense, and assessment. A director of the Board expressed that the Excellence Prize was aimed to summarize and consolidate the successful management models of Chinese enterprises, and promote them to spur the development of the management modernization of Chinese enterprises.

 

On the evening of awarding ceremony, Cheng Siwei, Honorable Chair of the Board of the activity congratulated the success of the activity. As the On-duty Chair of the Board for the year, Zhu Xiaoming, Principal of CEIBS, said, “The Excellence Prize is the sounding of the clarion and a flag. It praises the entrepreneurs who have achieved success and the future entrepreneurs to jointly create the Chinese management platform.”

 

The winners expressed that the activity was of a high significance. The consolidation of the Chinese management model must be helpful in improving the future soft strength of China. China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation Limited won the Excellence Prize for Organization Innovation. Zhao Xiaogang, Chair of the company, said that Chinese enterprises had thoroughly felt the existence of the Chinese management model. Otherwise the new performance on the world arena of Chinese enterprises could not be explained. As winner of the Excellence Prize for Management, Li Yinquan, Vice President of China Merchants Group, believed that in the past practice, we had been exploring for the Chinese management model. With the deepening of the exploration, especially the extraction and summary on the theoretical realm, the Chinese management model would soon show up clearly in front of the world. It would boost strongly the development of China. As winner of the Excellence Prize for Marketing, Wang Gang, Vice President of Gree, expressed that the non-government prize issued by the management circle was a huge recognition of the management model of Gree.

 

At the moment of the 30th anniversary of the open-door and reform policies, the Chinese management model is given an important aura of historical mission. Hu Xinxin, Member of the Council of the activity, said that the management science was born in the West. It was cultivated for a hundred years in the Western industrial civilization. Now the Chinese entrepreneurs and experts in the Chinese management circle transplanted the big tree to the soil of China. We were responsible for helping the tree of management to grow vigorously on the Chinese land. Robert Xu pointed out that he and 4,800 Kingdee employees shared a common ideal – with the joint efforts of all walks of society, help the Chinese management model to rise in the world.
