GWM sales surge 15.2% in 2021

Great Wall Motors sold 1.28 million vehicles last year, up 15.2 percent year-on-year from 2020, said China's largest SUV and pickup maker on Thursday.

The year 2021 marked the sixth year in a row that Great Wall Motors sold over 1 million vehicles.

Of its five brands, Haval vehicles totaled 770,000 units, accounting for the majority of the company's total deliveries in 2021.

The Haval H6 SUV was the best-seller, with 370,000 units sold in the year.

Great Wall Motors' electric car brand Ora saw its sales reach 135,000 units last year, up 140 percent year-on-year. They accounted for over 10 percent of Great Wall Motors' total deliveries.

Its premium Wey brand sold 58,363 vehicles last year, with its cumulative deliveries exceeding 450,000 units by the end of 2021.

Great Wall Motors' pickups continued their sales momentum, with over 230,000 sold last year.

The carmaker continued its overseas expansion as well, with its vehicles available in over 170 countries and regions.

Last year, a record number of 143,000 units were sold in international markets, accounting for over 11 percent of the carmaker's total sales.

It plans to launch vehicles in Europe this year now that its European headquarters have been established in Germany.

Great Wall Motors aims to sell 4 million vehicles a year in 2025, with 80 percent of them new energy vehicles.
