Nio on track to deliver 10,000 vehicles in 2018
Electric-vehicle startup Nio is on target to sell 10,000 vehicles this year after launching sales of its first product, the seven-seat ES8 crossover, in June.
In November, it delivered 3,089 ES8s, surging 96 percent from October, Nio said. The ES8 has a starting price of 448,000 yuan ($65,211).
The number brought total sales of the ES8 to 8,030 through November.
On Dec. 1, Nio started taking orders for its second model, the ES6, a five-seat crossover with a tentative starting price of 370,000 yuan.
Like the ES8, the ES6 is assembled at Jianghuai Automobile Co., a state-owned automaker in the east China city of Hefei, with which Nio signed a manufacturing contact in 2015.
On Nov. 27, the 10,000th ES8 rolled off the production line at JAC, according to Nio.
Nio, formerly known as NextEV, was incorporated in Shanghai in 2014 with the financial backing of Chinese entrepreneur William Li and technology giant Tencent Holdings. It launched an initial public stock offering on the New York Stock Exchange in September.
