VW Group sales slide 0.3% in August

Volkswagen Group’s China sales remained stuck in neutral for the third straight month, edging down 0.3 percent to 352,500 in August.

VW brand’s August sales dipped 3.2 percent to 256,800 but Audi and Skoda each recorded impressive sales growth, according to the German auto group.

Audi deliveries increased 6.0 percent to 57,453 while Skoda sales advanced 12 percent to 29,000.

VW Group didn’t reveal China sales tallies for its other brands for August.

Through August, the German auto giant delivered 2,656,300 vehicles in China, an increase of 6.7 percent from the same period last year.

Despite the weak sales in recent months, VW Group has still gained market share.

Last month, China’s new light-vehicle sales declined 4.6 percent year on year to nearly 1.8 million vehicles.

For the first eight months, new light-vehicle deliveries rose 2.6 percent to approach 15.2 million.
