ZF to supply dual pinion steering for 3 major Chinese automakers
ZF Friedrichshafen has landed contracts this year to supply a dual pinion electric power steering system for three major domestic Chinese automakers.
The system will be used in the automakers’ compact crossovers and midsize sedans, the German supplier said this week, without identifying the customers.
The system delivers fuel savings of up to 4 percent compared with a conventional hydraulically powered steering system to help vehicles meet China’s increasingly stringent fuel economy requirements, ZF said.
ZF has produced nearly 10 million electric systems for China since launching local production in 2012.
To meet local demand for advanced steering systems, the company is adding a steering plant in China. The factory, under construction in Zhangjiagang in east China’s Jiangsu province, will start production next year.
